Understanding the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

cropped-favicon-icon

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government program designed to make dental care more affordable for Canadians who don’t have dental benefits and have a household income of less than $90,000 a year. Think of it as financial support for those who need it most. It’s not a free program, but it’s here to help.

This plan is meant for people who don’t already have access to dental coverage through work, school, or private insurance. It’s managed by Health Canada and administered by Sun Life, so decisions about eligibility and covered services are handled by them, not our team.

Am I Eligible for CDCP?

If you’re unsure whether you qualify, you can check by contacting the program helpline at 1-833-537-4342 (available Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

Right now, the program is open to:

  • Seniors aged 65 or older
  • Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate
  • Children under 18 in qualifying households

If you don’t fall into one of these groups, don’t worry, more Canadians will be eligible to apply in 2025.

Once approved, you’ll receive a welcome package from Sun Life. This will include a member card, details about any co-payment requirements, and the start date for your coverage. Your coverage will begin based on when your application is processed.
